Sony's new action camera the FDR-x3000 has been making waves in the professional film making industry for very good reasons.
The BOSS system (Balanced Optical SteadyShot) is an optical stabilizer that allows the user to shoot in stabilized 4K resolution. This system is unique in the "action camera" industry. Moreover, the low light performance is the best we have seen in any action cams. Also, the FDR-X3000 offers a 100 megabit rate in 4K/30FPS. The higher the bit rate, the more information is captured in each frame. This in turn allows for very crisp videos as well as being able to pull out details out of each frame in post production. In our opinion, the FDR-x3000 is the new leader in image quality for action cam.
If you are a professional user and do not have a camera yet, we would strongly recommend taking a look at this new camera. There are plenty of reviewers on YouTube who will offer their honest opinions ( Iphonedo is one of our favorites...)
Suffice to say, we wanted to create a housing that would be the toughest one we've ever made.
Enters ABYSSO.
This is THE camera housing for extreme depth and extreme filming conditions. From filming underwater to depth of 9000ft (1.7 mile, 2750m ) or filming explosions, rocket launches, building demolitions, etc, Abysso is made to be at the heart of the action, regardless of how brutal the environment is.

Want to get unique footage with your SJCam,GoPro® or Git2?
This housing has been the top seller within the scientific community for good reasons: it is the most cost effective solution to get visual data at extreme depth.
Its overall compactness is non-intrusive to wildlife. Benthic 2 is also used in manned submersibles, UUV, ROV, and BRU. The Benthic 2 housing can be drilled to accept a waterproof connector.
Professional filmmakers and engineers are using the Benthic 2 to get footage that would otherwise destroy the camera. Fishermen and marine archeologists are finally able to see what is below the water cost-effectively.
The Benthic 2 comes with a housing mount. This mount can be attached to our standard camera mount which has a 1/4" 20 thread on the bottom.

Ever since Point of View (POV) action cameras went mainstream, we have tested dozens of models from various manufacturers over the years and the vast majority of them aren't that good. As that industry matured, we did find an action camera that is an excellent cost effective alternative with features that did not exist on the other action cams.
Overall, the video footage obtained from this camera is very good. This camera will not match the top tier action cams in absolute terms, but you can get two of these GB Git2 cameras, and still have $100 left over to buy your significant other dinner and flowers to make up for the inordinate time you've spent filming underwater critters.
Another tangible point to consider about exploration is that it is ALWAYS better to have two cameras underwater instead of one. Murphy's Law still applies underwater and while reviewing the footage of something of interest, you will invariably wished you had had a second camera deployed at another angle.
One of the features we really liked about this camera is that it turns on/off automatically when an external power source is hooked up via the USB port. This feature opens a whole range of options for very long term time-lapse sessions. This feature allowed us to take underwater time-lapse pics and videos during months long deployments.
This camera is compatible with our Scout and Benthic Camera Housings.
This camera comes with a full kit including various mounts and a waterproof housing (31m, 100ft)

Need to go beyond the Benthic housing? This basic kit includes a Benthic housing (choose Benthic 2 or 3) , an adapter ring, and a 7.25" GPH 1750m housing.
Now, you will have ample room to add various batteries, programmable timer, voltage regulator, microcontroller boards, etc.
The Benthic housing itself provides up to .83" (21mm) of space behind the GitUp, SJCam or GoPro® camera. Since the back of this housing is drilled with 7/16th hole (11mm), you can easily pass through wires from the camera to whatever you have stored in the GPH. The Benthic provides easy access to the USB and HDMI ports. The GPH itself is 7.25" long (19.5cm), giving you 6.4"x2.5" (16.3cm x 6.3cm ) of space. Outside diameter is 3" (7.6mm).
This a highly flexible and modular system. An additional GPH, be 7" (15.2cm) or 10" (25.4cm) long, can be added to this basic kit. We provide drilling and tapping service should you want to connect this kit to another one, or to surface power using a sub-sea connector.
The Benthic and the GPH can be used independently with an optional plug for the Benthic and an additional endcap for the GPH.
Both of these housings are field-proven globally. The longest single deployment record so far is at a depth of 4900 feet (1500m) for 16 months. This kit is rated for a depth of 6500ft (2000m).
As with all our housings, these are made of 6061 aluminum and anodized. Well Made in the USA.
NB: wires, boards, batteries, connectors, cameras shown in pictures are not part of the kit.

This highly programmable timer allows up to 18 functions for timed events on your camera or flashlight. This includes repeating an event (ie: record a video and/or turn flashlight on for 10 minutes then turn off for 20 minutes) up to 9999 times if counting, otherwise unlimited. Timed events are adjustable from 0.01 seconds up to 270 hours, giving you maximum flexibility.
Two of these timers can be linked and programed to allow for even more flexibility ((ie: wait 40 hours 20 minutes and 5 seconds, then start the cycle (ie: turn camera or light on for 12 minutes, then turn off, wait 30 minutes) and repeat that cycle 100 times. Or turn camera on first, after 10 seconds, turn flashlight on, then turn both camera and flashlight off after 15 minutes. Repeat this cycle after 45 minutes and do it 30 times.)
This timer operates on 12V or 24V. It also fits nicely in a GPH housing.
This timer works exceptionally well with our Git2 camera and is also used in our custom programmable lights.
